Bank emphasises its commitment to empowering young talents in pursuit of excellence
Kuala Lumpur: CIMB Group Holdings Berhad (“CIMB” or “the Bank”) today announced its latest partnership with rising motorsports talent, Amer Harris Jefry, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing talented individuals and athletes across diverse sporting disciplines. Amer’s determination and resilience to succeed in a sport where Malaysian talents are rarely recognised embodies the spirit of CIMB’s Kita Bagi Jadi, a movement to inspire Malaysians to turn dreams into reality.
The partnership was officiated at a signing ceremony witnessed by YB Hannah Yeoh, Minister of Youth and Sports. CIMB was represented by Gurdip Singh Sidhu, Chief Executive Officer, CIMB Malaysia and CIMB Bank Berhad.
YB Hannah Yeoh said, “At the Ministry of Youth and Sports, we believe in building a supportive environment to help mobilise and push the national sports agenda, that includes public-private partnerships. We commend CIMB’s commitment to nurturing Malaysia’s champions, further more in non-traditional sports like motorsports. Amer’s impressive achievements are truly inspiring. From humble beginnings, he carved a niche for himself and persevered to become one of the few Malaysian racers to race internationally, and the only Malaysian racer to be selected by the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Talent Pool in 2025. Motorsports is a growing area of interest among the youth and a sport where Malaysia has great potential to excel. Brand partnerships such as this provides essential support – not just financially, but also in boosting the morale of our athletes to move them closer towards achieving victory.”
Amer joins an elite roster of national sports icons under the CIMB banner, including Olympian and professional track cyclist Dato’ Azizulhasni Awang, national squash player S. Sivasangari and professional golfer Ervin Chang.
Gurdip said, “CIMB has a longstanding commitment of empowering young and talented Malaysians across various fields including sports, music, art and education to move forward, making their dreams happen. In continuing the Bank’s efforts in advancing customers and society, we remain dedicated to unlocking the potential of Malaysians who may be under represented but carry extraordinary potential. This is one way we contribute to nation building and create sustainable opportunities.”
“CIMB is pleased to welcome Amer Harris as our new brand partner. As an emerging talent in the world of motorsports, Amer embodies the spirit of resilience, unwavering dedication, excellence and progress – qualities that resonate with CIMB’s Kita Bagi Jadi or ‘Make It Happen’ spirit. We are committed to champion young Malaysian talents, helping them pursue their passions and inspiring the next generation in the region. We look forward to supporting his journey and his pursuit of putting Malaysia on the map,” he said.
Amer started his racing career from go-karting since he was eight years old. Since then, he clinched three Asia Go Kart championship titles and 18 Go Kart race wins. He has triumphed his debut races including Sepang 1,000KM, Toyota Gazoo Malaysia, Formula 4 SEA and Thailand Super Series. His win at the Hyundai N Cup in Zhuhai, China drew widespread attention and was acknowledged by Malaysian Prime Minister, YAB Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim. These achievements are a testament to his dedication, resilience and undeniable racing skills. Amer’s inclusion as a CIMB brand partner comes at a pivotal moment in his burgeoning career.
Amer said, “I am humbled and honoured to be CIMB’s brand partner. I understand that with this comes a big responsibility, and I am ready to carry the torch of the Kita Bagi Jadi spirit which is synonymous with my journey thus far. Racing has always been a passion of mine, and the support of my family and team have kept me determined to excel in motorsports. This partnership is timely as it marks a key milestone in my professional journey. I hope that I will be able to reach new heights in motorsports and continue making Malaysia proud, both on and off the track."
Amer’s next race in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2025 will take place at the Sepang International Circuit on 6 to 8 June. Previously, he made it to Round 4 at Twin Ring Motegi, Japan, in April and prior to that secured a third-place finish at the Shanghai International Circuit in March.
