KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Group ("CIMB") has appointed Dr. Donald Hanna as Group Chief Economist with effect from 1 November 2017.
Dr. Hanna began his professional career with the World Bank, in Washington DC, USA and Jakarta, Indonesia. His experience includes managing macroeconomic teams for various prestigious global financial institutions, as well as for both sell- and buy-sides providing macro and market views at two hedge funds. Dr. Hanna had also set up and managed an independent, Asian-focused macro research office. He is best known for his expertise in both global and ASEAN macroeconomic and policy developments. During the Asian Financial Crisis, Dr. Hanna provided advisory services to policy makers and corporates in several ASEAN countries including Malaysia.
Dr. Hanna, who is based in CIMB Hong Kong, is a Fulbright scholar and holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard and a BA, summa cum laude, in Economics and Spanish from the University of California at Berkeley.
He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis at an Australian University, and sits on the Asian Development Bank’s International Advisory Group.
