Combo of golf, food and debuting live music enhance spectator experience
Kuala Lumpur: This year’s CIMB Classic, at TPC Kuala Lumpur scheduled for 20 - 23 October, has upped the ante on fan enhancements with its carefully curated combo of food and live music, through its Public Village and the introduction of ‘Fairway Fest’, making the tournament as a not-to-be-missed event alongside the most prestigious golf tournament in Malaysia.
The Fairway Fest, debuting at the 2016 CIMB Classic is a lifestyle extension of the tournament following play on 22 – 23 October. As an international world-class event broadcast to 1 billion households globally, the CIMB Classic has grown to become more than just a golf tournament, offering an exciting weekend for fans and visitors. The Fairway Fest will showcase several home-grown Malaysian artistes with incredible talent, and they will perform from 3 – 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
And who better to croon off an already fun-filled weekend than legendary ASEAN songstress, Sheila Majid? Needing no introduction, Sheila - dubbed Malaysia’s ‘Queen of Jazz’ for her powerful vocals and unique style - has bagged numerous chart toppers and awards in her 31-year singing career.
“I am excited to be part of the CIMB Classic, where world-renowned golfers like Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed and Adam Scott will also be in the spotlight on the final tournament day. The line-up of world-class golf and well-curated side activities will definitely bring the golfers and non-golfers out to TPC Kuala Lumpur for a fun-filled weekend. I am certainly looking forward to entertain music-loving fans at the CIMB Classic”, said Sheila.
The other class act for Sunday’s after-party is hip-hop artiste SonaOne, who collaborated in the song ‘Havoc’ nominated by World Music Awards 2014 for World’s Best Video and World’s Best Song. SonaOne will entertain fans with his smash hits such as ‘Firefly’, ‘Hakaleh’ and the award-winning ‘No More’. Equally exciting Saturday’s after-party will be graced by the smooth vocals of highly talented Dasha Logan, daughter to legendary Loganathan from the chart-topping Alleycats., and De Fam, an outstanding female trio recently crowned ‘breakthrough artiste’ by MET 10, a popular Malaysian radio station’s singing competition.
The Public Village is home to the Public Expo, Family Fun Zone, Food Pavilion and the all-new Fairway Fest. It’s a minute’s walk away to the Heineken Green Experience and the Fifty Six Degrees Lounge. These areas that are open to the public will showcase various offerings across the four-day event for spectators to discover the CIMB Classic experience.
The CIMB Classic 2016, now in its seventh year, will feature a 78-player elite field, comprising 60 from the PGA TOUR, 10 from the Asian Tour and eight sponsor’s exemptions.
The CIMB Classic, which is also co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Professional Golf Association of Malaysia is part of the PGA TOUR’s season-long FedExCup competition. Malaysia will have two representatives i.e., the winner of the SapuraKencana National Classic, Gavin Green, and the highest ranked Malaysian golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking as at 11 October 2016.
