Climate change is a global environmental challenge that belongs to every inhabitant of this planet. Realising the extreme weather changes in recent years and its devastating effects globally, CIMB Bank’s Wisma Consplant decided to take a more proactive role in protecting Mother Earth and tackling related issues closer to home.
Through its Community Link initiative, the branch raised close to RM45,000 and worked closely with local non-profit organisation Treat Every Environment Special (TrEEs) to implement environmental programmes for the Subang Jaya community. These include running the School Climate Change & Biodiversity Programme and developing the Biodiversity and Climate Change Community Centre. The former programme is targeted towards raising the awareness of secondary and primary school children on climate change and its repercussions on the environment, whilst the later is focused on educating the general public on this.
So far, activities such as forest trekking and one-day workshops at Rimba Ilmu, University Malaya have been a great hit with the students. Their understanding of the impact of climate change and ways to mitigate it was raised a notch, and the branch staff and TrEES are happy indeed that the education outreach programmes are achieving their objectives.
