Camp for People with Learning Difficulties
Understanding those with special needs
BRANCH: Teluk Intan
MANAGER: M Gopalakrishnan

Bethany Home is a school and training centre for those who are physically or mentally handicapped. The home nurtures these special-needs people to their full potential, by equipping them with the skills needed to become as independent as possible and helping them gain maximum opportunities in life within a community environment.

In an effort to give back to society and support Bethany Home, CIMB Bank’s Teluk Intan branch initiated a Community Link project and contributed RM24,000 to fund HandiCamp. HandiCamp is a camp for people with learning difficulties aged 16 and above. Adhering to the concept that interaction with special-needs people is the best way to learn about them, staff from the branch and volunteers from other organisations joined special-needs people from Johor and the Klang Valley for a fun time at Genting Highlands.

Everyone at the camp engaged in games and activities such as tug-of-war, three-legged race and theme park visit. The camp not only offered these special-needs people more exposure to the mainstream community, but also opened the eyes and hearts of the volunteers to better understand and interact with them.

All in all, it was a great experience for the participants and volunteers alike, with CIMB staff already looking forward to the next Community Link activity.
