It was a defining moment indeed, to witness the smile light up the child’s face, after she was fitted with spectacles that enabled her to see better. This little girl had been struggling with her poor eyesight for some time, and her plight is far from isolated. There are many students out there who can not see well, as their parents can not afford to send them for an eye examination, let alone provide them with prescription spectacles.
In an effort to reach out to these students, CIMB Bank’s Pearl Point branch through their Community Link initiative contributed RM30,000 in support of the Vision Possible project, which was driven by the Rotary Club of Danau Desa.
Working closely with the Students Welfare Unit of the Federal Territory’s Education Department, four schools in Kuala Lumpur were selected for this project. Students from the Projek Rakyat Termiskin and squatter areas in these schools were identified and given a basic eye check. Those with poor eyesight were taken to the optician for further tests and prescribed free spectacles where necessary.
For these children, the gift of perfect vision truly brings more joy than words can ever express.
