| | | | Classroom Training | | TCB Associate, Master in Engineering, University of Cambridge “The intensive classroom training was very well structured. It has served to provide us with the necessary foundation, particularly for those who did not previously come from a finance background. Each module was carefully designed to give a broad overview on the subject and was further reinforced with real-life case studies and group exercises. I have found that the knowledge that I have gained from the classroom training is essential for my work subsequently, be it in Consumer Banking or Investment Banking.” TCB Associate, Bachelor of Business Administration, International Islamic University Malaysia “As I look back, I see TCB classroom training a solid and well-structured programme to ensure we develop skills, knowledge and character as a good investment or consumer banker. The classroom training is dynamic and face-paced to unleash our full potential and, more importantly, it provides a clearer direction towards realizing my career ambition. It has also helped me to realize my strengths and areas for further improvement to guide me towards the better prepare me for the real working world of investment banking. I really enjoyed the 2-months training!” | |
| | Investment Banking | | Corporate Finance TCB Associate, Bachelor of Commerce, Monash University “Corporate Finance provides fast-paced learning while working in an incredibly challenging and dynamic environment. It gave me extensive exposure to various corporate exercises and product knowledge in the financial services industry. I have gained great experience within the short period although I would like to advise everyone to be well prepared for the intensity of the learning pace.” Corporate Client Solutions TCB Associate, Master of Science, Imperial College London "The learning curve in this department was very steep. My bosses' advice to me was 'come in with an open mind - and be a sponge!'. On my first day, I was asked to assist in a takeover deal and joined in on a conference call with other investment banks in other regions. The training materials from the Programme came in handy. I also learned to better organise and manage various tasks at the same time." Cash Management, International Banking & Transactional Services TCB Associate, Master of Arts, Regent's Business School London “During my rotation, one of my main projects was to create a marketing plan. I also worked with media agencies to create advertisements, posters and brochures for Cash Management.” Strategy & Innovation, Group Strategy TCB Associate, Bachelor in Engineering, University of Nottingham “The team that I worked with was involved in generating new ideas and strategies for CIMB Group. My work included analysing market trends for the Team. I improved a great deal on my skills in research and analysing information. An important highlight of my rotation was having a bird’s eye view of the entire Group’s operations.” Equity Capital Market TCB Associate, Bachelor of Science (Economics), London School of Economics “The work environment was challenging but my colleagues were excellent in providing guidance where necessary. I assisted in preparing valuations and financial models. Two key lessons I learnt were: never afraid to ask more questions and find out the objective of the project before starting the work.” | |
| | Asset Management | | Strategic Assets (Asset Management) TCB Associate, Master in Engineering, University of Cambridge "To me, Strategic Assets was an ideal rotation as I was given plenty of opportunities to learn from and work with the senior team in some major deals. My daily work involved assisting my seniors on researching companies, liaising with investees and even building financial models. One of the rewarding moments of my rotation at Strategic Assets was to read the announcement on Bursa Malaysia of the deal that i have worked on." CIMB-Mapletree TCB Associate, Bachelor of Commerce, Curtin University “I consider myself quite fortunate to be placed in this unit. I was given opportunities to go for site visits, presentations to and meetings with clients. This has helped me to increase my confidence and develop my social skills in a professional context. The development of MTs should not only be what they know but also how they carry themselves; which although has been addressed during our classroom training, would still need real life practice before it becomes second nature.” Fund Operations, CIMB Principal TCB Associate, ACCA and Diploma in Accounting, Universiti Teknologi Mara “The nature of my work was to produce net asset value for funds for reporting purposes. As part and parcel of fund accounting, daily reconciliation was to be made to ensure the accuracy of the numbers produced. I also liaised with external auditors and provided them with the required information for audit purposes. I was fortunate to have joined the department near to year end as I was given the opportunity to be involved in the preparation of Annual Report and the Interim Report for bond funds.” Private Equity TCB Associate, Bachelor in Economics, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak “My attachment at CIMB Private Equity gave me a wonderful view of a section of the bank’s asset management division as I was given the opportunity to experience direct investment into businesses and where investment decisions are driven more by industry, business and management viability. I gained valuable insight into how Private Equity worked and the enormous amount of scrutiny that go into each deal before an investment was made. The three months I spent there presented me with an opportunity to view different kinds of businesses within an investment bank and to learn to study the various aspects of a business plan. One of the most exciting experiences I had was when I was given the opportunity to be present at one of the board meetings with an investee company and observed how the meeting and discussions were carried out. Such an experience was eye-opening for a management trainee!” | |
| | Other Departments | | Corporate Communications TCB Associate, Master of Science, Imperial College London “One of my assigned tasks was to produce an invitation card for a signing ceremony of CIMB Group. It was a very hands-on project for me from selecting the material for the card, liaising with the designer to scouting for the envelopes for the card. I was also given the opportunity to sit in on meetings with the advertising company & media agency which were an eye-opener because it presented a very different aspect of banking that I had not previously thought about. In a nutshell, Corporate Communication was really an interesting rotation!” Learning & Talent Development TCB Associate, Bachelor of Commerce, Monash University “The department encompasses the most amazing group of people I have worked with. They are eager, friendly and self motivated which gave a very lively environment to LTD. I was given the privilege to explore LTD in a very flexible manner, with the objective of learning the most out of the rotation. I attended a few trainings and grasped the general idea of effective training as a training that was carefully planned and having noticeable impact on participants. I was given exposures to all areas of the department – from the initial development and brainstorming of a new training programme to participating and assisting programme implementation.” | | | |

I really appreciated my rotation with this department as it provided me with an insight of what it is really like to deal with customers on a daily basis and the freedom to explore and create, to come up with new ideas and be heard, to drive and to implement, and finally, to see the fruit of one’s labour.” Consumer Sales & Distribution, CIMB Bank TCB Associate, Bachelor in Islamic Economy, Universitas Islam Negeri Sharif Hidayatullah Jakarta “My two-month attachment with CIMB Bank has taught me the importance of satisfying customers' financial needs; providing customers with the right solutions and getting the job delivered within timeline. These lessons are crucial and precious.
